As many of you may know this site is a bit dated and for historical reference mostly as well as fond memories. I was actually 'talking' to 'Alexa' (the updated AI version) this morning while making the bed.  Interestingly 'she' listed many of the devices she could see/access in this home we built in Winter Haven, Florida in May of 2018.  Pretty amazing what she is able to see/hear/determine.

 

We actually 'talked' about the changes and progress that has been made with technology and how it has and hasn't effected home design and construction today.  There wasn't much of the current tech available back then but darn, we did some amazing things with design, wiring and the technology we had available at the time. We used building materials and techniques that still remain outside of the normal/current home construction designs. I guess we were truly Way ahead of the curve back then; so much so we lost everything to bankruptcy and a failed promise of future projects we had planned on.  Too many just couldn't visualize, like we did, the capabilities and actual cost savings that technology of the day offered.  Our 'zoned high voltage' systems saved on miles of copper wiring and labor.  Our placement of wired internet access in every room and available with every wall outlet was beyond imagination of the day.  The insulation and wall design and construction offered amazing energy savings that remain untouched today.  The use of materials, like natural solid stranded bamboo for flooring remain outside the scope and imagination of most home design specialists.

 

We envisioned and delivered a true 'Smart Home' that, even today, few can attain.  Our current home, while lovely/nice, it took a threat of 'contract cancellation' to even get a modest addition of some internet (Cat5e) cable with the more traditional 'cable' wiring that was included in the specs.  I think we are the only home in this lovely area that has this.

 

But we love our current home, but often miss the old 'Mouse House' we managed to build so many years ago. I hope you enjoy this historical look back at what could have been with us as we fondly remember the 'good old days'!

IQ-Home offered a complete service for selecting Digital Home Automation and Sound Systems.  We integrated the digital control and sound system into your home infrastructure to make it work seamlessly with your lifestyle.

 

While the underlying technology is advanced, its application is engineered to enable common household functions to be controlled and managed electronically.  The majority of the electronic control components are ‘low voltage’; thus eliminating many of the ‘shock’ hazards of electrical systems and allowed the use of lighter Cat5e cabling to replace the more expensive copper 12 or 14 guage solid copper often utilized. Even the light switches throughout the home are ‘low voltage’! 

 

A "Zoned" smart electrical capability enabled a single high voltage run that eliminates many of the 'home runs' to the fuse box that are typically utilized.  Each of these high voltage control units (often placed in ceilings) allow less expensive electrical circuits to be controlled and installed throughout the home.

 

The home works For you; dynamically adjusting to your everyday usage.  Full range occupancy/motion sensors control most of the lighting and environmental systems; often eliminating even the need for a common light switch!  Security systems utilize many of the same control components to reduce cost.

 

How we did it:

We used professional design and CAD drafting software for our residential designs. We produce illustrated 3D models for each project reducing uncertainty and frustration; thus minimizing change orders. We design and plan all aspects of a custom home including kitchen and bath designs, placing cabinets and customizing a design to fit the client’s exact needs. We can customize all rooms to include window treatments, painting colors, wallpaper, furniture ideas and placement, accessories, tile, carpeting, wood flooring, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, roofing and millwork.
